When will this Month be celebrated? November of each calendar year.
What is World DevSecOps Month?
The biggest risk for any software product is the security risks that it carries. More bugs, zero tolerance for cyberattacks, greater consumer demands and expectations such as consumer privacy are all putting pressure on software and hardware companies to ensure secure development of their products. These days, the stakes are higher than ever when it comes to making sure your software is secure. That’s where DevSecOps – short for development, security, and operations – comes in.
World DevSecOps Month is a community-driven initiative to drive awareness around security practices in development teams. Let’s make the development world a more secure place.
Why is this month being created?
As organizations rush to embrace various digital transformation initiatives, DevSecOps becomes an increasingly critical focus. Contrast Security is excited to contribute to, and learn from, this month long conversation. No matter your role within the DevSecOps community and no matter whether you are a member of the worldwide DevSecOps movement and work in IT, or work outside the industry on an issue, developers need to understand how to build trust within their own organizations. Adding these voices will allow us to take stock of what has not yet been addressed locally, regionally and globally. We need to have the opportunity to grow our collaboration amongst individuals and partners globally which is why World DevSecOps Month is being created – to recognize the security and development teams who work together to make the world a safer place.
How should this month be observed?
Join us in celebrating World DevSecOps Month to recognize all the contributions that security and developer teams make to the world. Participate and engage in World DevSecOps Month by:
- Contributing your voice and resources to social media conversations by using the hashtag #WorldDevSecOpsMonth – share why your organization is interested in improving its security practices, and share how we can make it easier to practice code security
- Honing security skills through learning resources and networking opportunities, to advance your career and take advantage of today’s emerging technology landscape
- Share useful resources on DevSecOps to use both during November and throughout the year. The community can explore these sites for content to use in blogs, articles, and messaging within their organizations and external audiences.
- Include a message about the importance of the collaboration between security and developers in newsletters, mailings, and websites during November
- Organize, provide, or promote developer community and resources, training, and exercise opportunities for your internal and external stakeholders
- Participate in a local or virtual webinar or exercise to share developer and cybersecurity resources within your organization
