When will U.S.-ROK Combined Forces Command Day be celebrated? November 7th of each calendar year.
What is U.S.-ROK Combined Forces Command Day? Combined Forces Command Day commemorates the establishment of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command on November 7, 1978, and honors this unique binational military command responsible for the defense of the Republic of Korea.
CFC Day recognizes the shared sacrifice, readiness, and enduring strength of the ROK-U.S. Alliance; celebrates the men and women who serve under the combined warfighting structure; and reaffirms both nations’ commitment to peace, stability, and deterrence on the Korean Peninsula.
It serves as a reminder that the Combined Forces Command is not only a symbol of alliance cooperation, but an operational, “fight tonight” headquarters that stands ready to defend freedom and security today and for future generations.
How should U.S.-ROK Combined Forces Command Day be celebrated or observed? CFC Day should be observed with ROK-U.S. ceremonies that honor the history, mission, and personnel of the Combined Forces Command. This may include bi-national ceremonies at CFC headquarters, recognition of service members and veterans, joint military formations, educational outreach about the role of CFC, public messages from senior leaders, and activities that strengthen alliance unity and other community engagement events.
The day is intended to both honor the legacy of the command and reinforce the readiness and unity of the ROK-U.S. Alliance for future generations.
Why was U.S.-ROK Combined Forces Command Day created? To recognize CFC as the only binational, war-fighting command in the world. The ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command is unique — no other alliance has a fully integrated, standing war-fighting headquarters with shared command, staff, and operations. This designated day formally honors this unprecedented military partnership and its success.
Also, to Honor the 70+ Years of the ROK-U.S. Alliance’s sacrifice and service, CFC represents the living legacy of Korean War Veterans, U.S. Forces Korea, and the ROK Armed Forces who defended and continue to defend Korea’s freedom. This day publicly acknowledges past, present, and future defenders of the Korean Peninsula.
Who created this day? This day was created by Korea Defense Veterans Association in 2025.
