When is U.S. – ROK Alliance Day? This day will take place on October 1 of each calendar year.
What is U.S. – ROK Alliance Day? October 1st is birth of the Alliance between the United States (U.S.) and the Republic of Korea (ROK), because it is the anniversary of the signing of the U.S.-ROK Mutual Defense Treaty in 1953.
Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA) would like to make this a National Day to honor the millions of American and Korean Veterans who fought in the Korean War and served in Korea since the signing of the Armistice Agreement in July 1953. Our mission is to advocate for the U.S.-ROK Alliance and support the Veterans who built and serve the Alliance; and to help the U.S.-ROK Alliance provide a peaceful and secure life for Americans and Koreans.
Why is this day being celebrated or observed? Because Oct 1st is the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. – ROK Mutual Defense Treaty in 1953. To bring attention to how important the U.S. – ROK Alliance to Americans and Koreans. To honor the millions of American and Korean Veterans who fought in the Korean War and served in Korea since the signing of the Armistice Agreement in July 1953.
How should this day be celebrated or observed? We want this historic day to be remembered and celebrated by Americans and Koreans by holding events, sending supporting messages, supporting our Veterans, and sharing their stories of service in Korea. This day will be a singularly important day in the U.S. – ROK Alliance to help answer the question: “Why should Americans care about Korea?”
Who created this day? This day was created in September 2021 by Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA).
