Seis de Mayo

When will Seis de Mayo be celebrated? May 6th of each calendar year.

What is Seis de Mayo? Every May 5th, America goes all in. The decorations. The tacos. The margaritas. The spontaneous declaration that today is absolutely the day to learn salsa dancing. Cinco de Mayo is a full-on national event, and nobody celebrates harder than the people who love tacos.

Then May 6th hits. Crickets. The streamers are on the floor. The salsa jar is half-empty. And every brand in America has already moved on.

But not Brotega.

Who is Brotega? So glad you asked.

Brotega is the Ortega® brand’s larger-than-life brand character. Part hype man, part taco evangelist, full-time fiesta keeper. And Brotega doesn’t believe the party should end just because the date changed. Neither do we. That’s the whole spirit behind our “Now It’s A Fiesta” campaign: the celebration isn’t a moment. It’s a mentality.

So we’re making it official. Ortega® — America’s #1 taco sauce brand — is claiming May 6th as Seis de Mayo: a National Holiday dedicated to keeping the fiesta alive. Because one day of tacos a year isn’t a celebration. It’s barely a warm-up.

How should Seis de Mayo be celebrated or observed? Seis de Mayo is celebrated the same way every great holiday should be: with food, friends, and zero apologies for keeping the party going.

The tradition is straightforward. On May 6th, it’s all about more delicious tacos with Ortega® taco shells, salsa, sauces, Mexican seasonings and peppers. You gather whoever’s still standing from the night before, or call in reinforcements. You finish what you started on the 5th, or you start fresh. Either way, keeping the fiesta going is the point.

The holiday grows the same way the best food traditions do: one table at a time, city by city, year after year.

Why was Seis de Mayo created? Ortega® has been in American kitchens for over 125 years. We didn’t invent the taco, but we helped make it an American institution, and Brotega is here to make sure it stays that way, loudly and with maximum enthusiasm.

Nobody owns May 6th. No brand has ever thought to show up. We think that’s wild, and we intend to fix it.

Our 2026 Seis de Mayo launch kicks off in Chicago, where Brotega will crash morning news, roll a branded taco truck through The Loop, and personally hand free tacos to a lucky few still riding the post-Cinco struggle bus. From there, the “Now It’s A Fiesta” campaign spreads nationally, with a 50-state social push inviting taco fans everywhere to tag their city, share their tacos, and join the movement with #SeisDeMayo.

This isn’t a one-year stunt. It’s year one of a holiday. The Ortega® brand will be back every May 6th, louder than the year before, until Seis de Mayo is as automatic on the calendar as the holiday it follows.

Ortega® is a B&G Foods brand with national retail distribution, an active and growing social presence, and a brand character already generating serious earned media momentum. We have the reach, the community, and — most critically — the man with tacos to make this stick.

Now It’s A Fiesta. And it’s not stopping on the 5th.

Who created this day? This day was created by the Ortega® brand in 2026.
