When will Nurse Scientist Day be celebrated? June 14th of each calendar year.
What is Nurse Scientist Day? Nurse scientists occupy a distinct professional identify, neither purely clinical nor purely researcher. Nurse scientists are responsible for generating the evidence base to be used for nursing practice globally. Although nursing days exists, they recognize nurses generally and do not account for the role of the nurse scientist.
How should Nurse Scientist Day be celebrated or observed? An annual award can be provided to a nurse scientist at the local (e.g., hospital, academic setting), state/regional, and national level. The award can be delivered during an annual research symposium.
Why was Nurse Scientist Day created? Nursing science was formally recognized at the U.S. federal level on June 14, 1993, when the National Institute of Nursing Research was established at the National Institutes of Health. Since that time, nurse scientists have expanded the creation of and tested nursing theories, created knowledge for translation into clinical practice, and aided in the evidence-based transformation of healthcare.
Who created this day? This day was created by the National League for Nursing in 2026.
