When is National Vanilla Ice Cream Day? National Vanilla Ice Cream Day is July 23rd

What is National Vanilla Ice Cream Day? Vanilla ice cream is considered the standard flavor (“old faithful,” as many are known to call it), here in the US. And seeing that this month is National Ice Cream Month, why not have a day just for vanilla? Today is the day when we get to spotlight that ice cream flavor that has always been there for us!

Fun fact about National Vanilla Ice Cream Day! It is believed that Thomas Jefferson created an original formula for vanilla while in France and then brought that recipe over to the U.S. To this day, that very recipe, from the 1780’s, is kept in the Library of Congress!

How to celebrate National Vanilla Ice Cream Day: Get out to your local ice cream shops to support their work and enjoy some delicious vanilla ice cream and a well-earned brain freeze. Also, if you’re feeling brave, get a homemade recipe from online and make your own vanilla ice cream. We wouldn’t necessary recommend using Jefferson’s recipe, but consider using one of the many that are built off of his original!
