When is National Talk in an Elevator Day? It’s here! July 27th is the day we break the elevator vow of silence and decide to open our mouths and talk.

What is National Talk in an Elevator Day? Elevators have been going up and down since about 200 B.C. Yeah. That’s right. At that point, however, they were powered by hand or by animals. During the Industrial Revolution, the elevator really took off! We’ve all seen movies of men loading into a coal elevator and being lowered deep into some mine. All that necessary transportation led to new innovation, especially with the elevator. Though, in the midst of all the elevator development, people never learned how to talk in them! From 200 B.C. to modern times, people turn into timid individuals the moment they cross the elevator threshold.

Not today! No. Today, we strike up a conversation. Today, we break socials silence norms and talk freely. Today, we speak!

How to celebrate National Talk in an Elevator Day: Everyday there are millions of us that step in and out of elevators for work. And for most of us, that time is spent in absolute silence, listening to awful elevator music, just waiting for the doors to open so that we can be normal people again. Not today, though. Today, get into that elevator and outside of our comfort zone and talk to that cute guy or cute girl or strike up a conversation with that random stranger. At the very least we can commit to simply asking someone how they are, every day for a week, a month, or for the year!

We promise that everyone is as uncomfortable as you are, and everyone is just as annoyed with the silence. Take to break it!
