When is Space Day?
Space Day occurs every year on the first Friday in May.
What is Space Day?
Humankind inhabits a very small rock, considering the number and size of the other rocks out there. Space Day promotes the exploration of space and its uses to encourage kids towards science and space-related careers.
The 20th century race to the stars has evolved somewhat. There may be some element of nation racing against nation, but there’s more to it. Many consider space exploration a human imperative. Some fear earth-bound catastrophes and see a need to build human outposts beyond the stratosphere. Anyone of these folks wants to see significant developments towards the use of space within their lifetime.
Whatever the motive, Space Day brings out the celebrations and events. Schools and organizations demonstrate the achievements and benefits of space exploration. By promoting STEM careers (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), space advocates hope to cultivate interest in today’s youth to support the space industry of tomorrow.
