National Slam the Scam Day was created by the government in 2020 to raise public awareness to combat Social Security-related scams. It now extends to all types of scams.

Never give out your personal information. The Government will never ask you in a text or email to reveal your personal information. That includes the IRS and Post Office. If someone is asking for it, even pretending to be with the government, it is a scam and delete and block the person. Don’t click on links either that are included in texts or emails. Be on guard.
National Slam the Scam Day falls on the Thursday during Consumer Protection Week. According to the government, “the day is an initiative to raise public awareness by helping the public to combat Social Security-related scams. Scammers are counting on you being uninformed of their deceptive tactics, the goal of this National Day is to get you informed on scammer tactics so you don’t fall prey to their schemes.”
