Silly Earring Day

When is National Silly Earring Day? This day will take place on April 13 of each calendar year.

What is National Silly Earring Day? Earrings are the ultimate accessory, and they come in so many shapes in sizes! Silly earrings are a great way to express yourself and put a smile on the faces of everyone you encounter.

You can wear googly-eyed hot dogs, colorful power tools, oversized disco balls, and even Girl with a Pearl Earring earrings for the optimum earring-ception. The only limit is your imagination.

Earrings are not exclusively made using fine metals and expensive gems. Resin, polymer clay, fabric, and many other materials can create earrings as diverse as you. Unique earrings are the epitome of self-expression and can help you live your best life!

Fun Facts about National Earring Day:

  • Carol McFadden (USA) is listed in the Guinness World Records in October 2006 for owning the largest collection of earrings. She has 37,706 different pairs!
  • Several 17th-century portraits of Shakespeare show him wearing gold hoop earrings.
  • According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Chinese archaeologists discovered earrings that are between 7500 and 8200 years old.

Why is this day being celebrated or observed? I have collected earrings since I got my ears pierced. I started selling different designs in my store OddityCart.com. My customers are bored with the conventional beads and boring designs. They want something crazier, sillier, and more fun. I have sold over 8,000 earrings online and thousands more at craft fairs—clearly, there is a demand for these silly accessories. It was a huge relief to see that I am not the only one who loves them. A day to celebrate the most versatile accessory may help others feel proud of their love for unusual, unique earrings!

How should this day be celebrated or observed? National Silly Earring Day is a chance to celebrate the most versatile accessory! Spend the day wearing your favorite pair of earrings, no matter how silly they are.

If you are feeling creative, find an item in your home, drill a hole, add a hook, and wear it in your ears! Wine corks, chess pieces, buttons, anything can be an earring.

Don’t forget to spread the love for unusual earrings by sharing a photo of your favorite pair with the hashtag #SillyEarringDay. However, no one will stop you from doing this every day of the year if you want to!

Who created this day? National Silly Earring Day was created in April 2021 by Olena Kagui, a self-diagnosed earringholic. She has collected earrings religiously and sells them by the thousands on Oddity Cart.
