National Positive Affirmations Day

When will National Positive Affirmations Day be celebrated? The day after Labor Day of each calendar year.

What is National Positive Affirmations Day? “National Positive Affirmations Day” promotes others to “Share the Love” in their own communities every year by intentionally giving everyone they encounter or interact with positive affirmations.

How should National Positive Affirmations Day be celebrated or observed?  People should celebrate this day by intentionally giving people they interact with written or verbal positive affirmations.

Wear a t-shirt with uplifting words, especially uplifting for others.

They can also write emails and/or notes with positive affirmations to others (and place them in lunch boxes, on lockers, on coworkers desks, on a loved ones favorite spot, etc.)

The challenge is to respond to negative comments in a positive way, saying something nice about the other person, rather than reacting back to them in a negative way. This can be quite difficult, but if you try it, it can get a surprised reaction, perhaps a sigh of relief, and ease the tension. It helps to feel loved and accepted and to give love and acceptance.

If you do find yourself being negative to others or making negative comments, take a deep breath and apologize. Don’t get down on yourself. Everyone experiences stress. But we can turn that around by starting again. Just apologize. Explain that you had a stressful day or it caught you off guard and it came out wrong. Then say it in a nicer way, the best you can.

Ideas for schools that we came up with the idea of “Share the Love” bracelets and pencils to share the love and give others positive affirmations. For our bracelet idea, the bracelets are made with positive affirmations that you wear and pass on to someone who needs to feel loved. For our “Share the Love” pencil idea, students write a positive affirmation on a colorful pencil with a Sharpie to keep in their pencil case to give to anyone who asks to borrow a pencil.

We also came up with a “Share the Love” Beach Ball game that we made as a variation to the classroom Mum-ball game. It has all the same rules as Mum-ball, except that you use a beach ball with positive affirmations on each colored section of the beach ball. Then the person who catches the ball, reads the section that their right hand is on, to the person on their right before they pass the ball. Those are the only words they can say.

Come up with your own positive ideas to make a positive impact in your community!

Why was National Positive Affirmations Day created? Our idea came about when one of us saw a vehicle that had very negative window stickers: “Nobody likes you” and “Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn’t work, Arm, Aim, Shoot”. This type of attitude fuels violence in the world. This was evident due to firsthand experience with being bullied at school.

Why do others hurt people? Do these people feel LOVED or accepted? Can you give love or care about others if you don’t feel loved? As we pondered these questions, we could see that there’s a lot of hate and negativity in the world, and we wanted to do something about it! Many people react to hateful words and actions with just more hateful words and actions, but this does not solve the problem. Rather, it escalates it instead. We wanted to start a movement to help create a more positive environment to counteract the negative attitudes that are so prevalent in our society. We knew we needed positive affirmations to help people feel better about themselves, to feel loved, and produce a more positive environment.

We also saw this reaction of wanting to feel loved when we reached out to our community on Nextdoor Neighbor to try to find someone who had a need. More than anything else, we found that we got a lot of reactions from people who LOVED that we wanted to help our community in some way. They felt our LOVE. We knew the definition of love is to will the good of another, and the need and desire of every human heart is to be loved – accepted and cared about. These reactions made this apparent.

Also, a few people wanted us to provide help for all sorts of little needs, like raking, or providing food or money, and so on. Some felt reluctant to express their needs but felt a sense of fulfillment that someone cared. They felt our love. Many of us want to be able to help everyone in need. Is this possible? How do we help everyone in need? Can we do it all on our own or should we? How do we get others to help or start the movement of helping others? These were more questions we asked ourselves.

Everything seemed to point to LOVE. We figured that we could start with love through positive affirmations and pass that on! We can help provide healing to a broken world filled with anger and spite. Although it’s easy being nice to nice people, the challenge can be being nice to mean or upset people. Someone may have had a bad day or something unpleasant they’re dealing with or may feel stressed. An act of love can help them feel better and that someone cares. Helping others feel loved in just the little things we do or say can change a person’s attitude. This can be done through positive affirmations.

We all have a need to feel fulfilled in this life, first and foremost to be LOVED! Our mission is to help fulfill this need to be loved. We can help fulfill this need by reaching out to others in love and caring for each other! But we cannot do this if our own need of being loved is not fulfilled! If we feel loved, we can pass on this love to others. Then others who receive our love may in turn pass on the love as well! When people feel loved, they may pass that love on in forms of positive affirmations and helping others in need. This is how we begin the process of helping others in need. We all have a share in this! We can make a positive impact in our community using positive affirmations! We can turn the whole world around with love! But this begins in our own backyard!

Who created this day? This day was created by Karen Zimmer and the Odyssey Angels of Love in Michigan in 2026.
