What is Peyronie’s Disease Awareness Day?

Peyronie’s Disease Awareness Day calls attention to a condition that affects an estimated one in eleven men of all ages, yet few people have heard about it, except those who suffer in silence. Peyronie’s Disease Awareness Day educates the public about Peyronie’s Disease and shines a spotlight on common symptoms and the latest treatments.

Although many people have never heard of Peyronie’s Disease it is an embarrassing, painful condition that affects 1 in 11 men. Peyronie’s disease causes scar tissue to form, leading to an exaggerated curvature of the penis that can make having sex difficult or even impossible, affecting the man as well as his partner.

The cause isn’t completely understood but a number of factors appear to be involved. It is thought that Peyronie’s disease generally results from repeated injury to the penis. For example, the penis might be damaged during sex, athletic activity or as the result of an accident. However, most often, no specific trauma to the penis is recalled by the patient. Nearly 80% of men with Peyronie’s Disease also report some degree of Erectile Dysfunction (ED).

Why is this day being created?

Although women certainly have their fair share of issues to deal with regarding their reproductive organs, men are arguably more susceptible to traumatic injury. And one troubling condition that can affect men intimately is Peyronie’s disease. It is estimated that as much as 9 percent of the male population has or has had the condition. And although it can occur at any age, the most common sufferers are middle-aged.

Who created this day?

This day was founded by GAINSWave in 2018. There is a natural treatment available for Peyronie’s Disease with GAINSWave. GAINSWave uses a premium brand of low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy (LI-ESWT) to help men suffering from Peyronie’s disease.

GAINSWave is on a mission to raise awareness for Peyronie’s disease in order to help those that are affected by it to no longer feel embarrassed or ashamed. By raising awareness we will help those affected by this disease through early detection, education and support services.

How should this day be celebrated or observed?

Those that have been affected by it, or know someone who has, should share their stories. Medical professionals may also provide complimentary consultations.

Leading physicians across the country are participating in cooperation with the GAINSWave company in a national effort to educate the public about the causes, symptoms and treatment options for a disease that affects millions of men and their intimate partners.
