When is National Pet Safety & Protection Day? This day will take place on July 1 of each calendar year.

What is National Pet Safety & Protection Day? National Pet Safety & Protection Day shines a spotlight on just how many of our pet dogs & cats get lost each day, and to provide tips to pet parents on simple ways to prevent their pets from getting lost in the first place. The American Humane Association estimates 10,000,000+ dogs & cats are lost or stolen in the USA every year. And it is estimated that 1 in 3 pets will become lost at some point during their life. This is not only traumatic for the lost pets but also for the pet parents, who will experience stress, guilt, worry, etc. over their lost pets…some of which will be found but others will not.

Why is this day being celebrated or observed? Walk into any veterinarian’s office across the country, walk into any supermarket, pet food & supply chain, post office, and pretty much any store with a community bulletin board, drive past any telephone pole on any street in any town, and you will inevitably see “LOST DOG,” “LOST CAT,” “MISSING PET,” “HAVE YOU SEEN?, “REWARD” signs plastered up, begging to be seen by the passing public. And social media is overflowing with tens of thousands of such posts daily. This is why it’s so important to be aware of how to best protect your pets from becoming lost.
