National No Excuse Day

When is National No Excuse Day? This day will take place on October 13 of each calendar year.

What is National No Excuse Day?

No Excuse Day, is just that! A day to get up and work out; get up earlier to meditate, to get to work on time, make that business meeting, stay longer to meet the deadline; call that friend or family member you been meaning to; clear your desk, work area, whatever you have been meaning to do; book that mental health, physical, counseling appointment; Put your best foot forward at work, home, school, gym etc. Start that vision board, set that goal with action steps. A day where there’s no room for not doing something you’ve been meaning to do and have procrastinated. A day to offer exceptional customer service; patient navigation; healthcare access; being kind; loving, supportive, etc. A day to stay home and rest and stop and smell the roses if you haven’t done so yet. Get it done, by all means necessary!

Why is this day being celebrated or observed?

Brugueras’ father, Iran Brugueras Sr., and his stepmother, Nora Brugueras, wanted to honor their son’s memory in a way that would reflect his life and struggles. After raising $25,000 through charity softball and bowling tournaments, the Brugueras’ founded the S.P.L.A.S.H. Project, with a goal of making mental health resources accessible to young people in the inner cities.

“‘No excuse” was his motto. There should be no excuse for people having no access to treatment in the mental health realm.
