In every heart, there is a hole.
In every shelter, there is love
in which to fill it.

When is National Mutt Day? July 31st and December 2nd bring us around to National Mutt Day.

What is National Mutt Day? This day was created by pet expert Colleen Paige to help us turn our care toward the animals that are most neglected. It’s trendy these days to seek out a pure bred yet mutts have the highest percentage, by far, of being abandoned and euthanized. But with the growing awareness from National Mutt Day we’re all hoping to see a shift in these numbers!

Fun facts about National Mutt Day! Mixed breed dogs tend to be healthier, better behaved and they live longer! There are millions of loving and healthy mixed breed dogs sitting in shelters, who are desperately searching for a new home.

How to celebrate National Mutt Day: The biggest way to sow into this awareness movement is to go down to your local shelter and adopt a dog. If you aren’t in a position to adopt right now, that’s okay. Animal shelters have plenty of volunteer opportunities. And even going down to the shelter from time to time to keep the animals company is its own kind of service. Lastly, shelters are underfunded. Consider donating $5 to your local shelter.
