What day is National Limoncello Day celebrated? June 22
What is this day? Sometimes life hands you lemons, i.e. difficult situations. National Limoncello Day represents turning that bitter fruit into the best thing you can, and being happy and content with it… turning lemons into limoncello.
What is limoncello? Limoncello is an Italian liquor made from the zest of lemons, sugar, water, and alcohol (usually grappa or vodka). Its production requires a great deal of precision and attention. The lemons are harvested by hand to avoid them from touching the ground at any given moment, and it takes place during the warmer months of February to October.
Who founded this day? This day was founded by Marie Barber in 2018.
Why is this day being celebrated? On June 22, 2017, Marie and her husband took a very difficult situation and turned it into something beautiful, then celebrated it that evening with limoncello after dinner. They noted how applicable the phrase “turning lemons into limoncello” was for the day and our situation and will be celebrating Limoncello Day every June 22 thereafter.
How should this day be celebrated? Enjoy a glass of limoncello and ponder all the ways you can make limoncello out of the lemons in your life. After all, life is what we make of it.
