When is National Lazy Day?

August 10th is National Lazy Day.

What is National Lazy Day?

It’s unproductive. It’s impractical. And that’s probably why it’s here. Presumably, National Lazy Day was made for all the slackers of the world. (Nobody knows because nobody wants to do the work to find out.)

What good is laziness? First of all, the laziest people are also the most capable of relaxing. American culture is so busy! Six-day work weeks and multiple jobs keep us that way. We say we’re going to “run to the store” because it makes us sound efficient. Folks like this could take a lesson from the world’s layabouts and lazybones.

A habit of laziness can become problematic, but a little laziness here and there is good for our well-being. So, relax, kick up your feet, and maybe even take a nap on National Lazy Day.

Fun facts about National Lazy Day!

Sloths move so slowly that algae forms on their long, coarse hair.

Creativity sometimes comes from laziness. Resistance to working hard can motivate us to be innovative.

Laziness does not necessarily represent stupidity. In an overworked world, the lazy people might be the smartest.

How to celebrate National Lazy Day:

Sleep in.

Amuse yourself with minimal effort. Read a book. Watch a movie. Pop in your earbuds and listen to your jams. It’s not a competition. Just enjoy yourself.

If you find yourself feeling restless, take a short walk with no plan, no goal. Be sure to grin and wave at anyone who’s doing work.

Order out. Don’t cook. Don’t even drive to a restaurant. That sounds like work.

Leave the housework until tomorrow.
