When will this Day be celebrated?  January 19th of each calendar year.

What is National Investment Risk Management Day?  This is a day where investors focus attention on ensuring their investment portfolios are designed to withstand any unforeseen black swan events that could negatively impact their financial plan and ability to achieve their investment goals. Investors tend to fall into complacency and take on more risk than is appropriate. This can leave their portfolios vulnerable to price declines during bear markets and unable to reach their financial goals as previously intended. The purpose of this national day is to create greater investor awareness that investment portfolios should be built for best case and worse case scenarios, so that financial goals can be reached regardless of future market direction.

Why is this day being created?  This National Day is being created in honor of those that experienced and learned from the 1987 crash, 2000 tech bubble burst and 2008 credit crises and to create greater investor awareness that investment portfolios should be built for best case and worse case scenarios, so that financial goals can be reached regardless of future market direction.

How should this day be observed?  This day is observed by investors taking off from work to dedicate their attention to reviewing, running scenario analysis and stress testing their investment portfolios to determine if they are built to address the unexpected significant market declines that often occur in markets. At the end of the day investors celebrate that their investment goals may be met regardless of the direction of markets. Typically, this celebration involves, investors getting together with friends, family and often their financial advisor, to enjoy a celebratory festive meal and libations.

Who created this day?  This day was created by Dan Kullman in 2022.
