When will this Day be celebrated?  June 18th of each calendar year.

What is National Internet Cat Day?

National Internet Cat Day celebrates all the Cats immortalized in cyberspace, and the humans who lovingly craft content to delight and amuse millions of fans.

The Cats may not care, but their people will love it.

Why is this day being created?

Cats rule the internet.

There are more Cat photos in cyberspace than people on earth, and a centuries-long cache of video. The Internet Cat phenomenon has inspired academic studies and built businesses. It gave rise to an annual convention in their honor (CatCon Worldwide), a dedicated TV station (Cats 24/7), and countless charitable acts on behalf of pets in need.

There is a very real community on social media among Internet Cats and the people who follow them. Their fans send gifts; ask advice; confide in them. They celebrate their everyday antics; offer sympathy for their struggles; and grieve their always untimely passings. Cats hit an emotional chord unlike any other.

A common joke among journalists, “As we all know, the internet is made of cats,” is testament to the impact our Feline friends have made on the greatest technological paradigm shift of the last century. Variously called “the undisputed mascot of the internet,” (EJ White) and “the internet’s spirit animal,” (Washington Post), Felines power what Wired Magazine once called, “the online cat-industrialized complex.” Their impact on technology, media, and popular culture – the very fabric of the internet – is beyond measure.

Even though they don’t care, Internet Cats deserve their own Day.

National Internet Cat Day was inspired by President Bill Clinton the Cat, the original Cyber-Feline of LBK Wink founder, Kelly Wofford. Mister President enjoyed the love and community of thousands of social media friends and followers worldwide. Tragically, his life was cut short on June 18, 2018. National Internet Cat Day is a fitting tribute to an extraordinary Cat.

How should this day be observed?

A live, online conference will mark the day, with appearances by Cat celebrities and their people. It will feature exclusive content, panel discussions, SmartyCat Trivia, a Bad Cat Pun contest, and unique swag for Cats and humans alike. Each year, the conference theme will spotlight a different subgenre: Adventure Cats, Political Cats, Talking Cats, and others.

Who created this day?  This day was created by LBK Wink, LLC in 2022.
