National Inflatable Safety Day

When will National Inflatable Safety Day be celebrated?

National Inflatable Safety Day is celebrated on July 1st of each calendar year. The inaugural celebration takes place on July 1, 2026.

What is National Inflatable Safety Day?

National Inflatable Safety Day is a nationwide awareness campaign dedicated to raising public awareness about the importance of safety when using inflatables such as bounce houses, waterslides, and obstacle courses. These attractions are enjoyed by millions of children and families across the country, yet many are unaware of the potential risks that come with improper setup, lack of supervision, or failure to follow safety guidelines.

By dedicating a day to inflatable safety, we educate parents, operators, event planners, and communities on best practices that prevent injuries and create safer environments for everyone. The day services as a powerful reminder of the shared responsibility between rental companies, event organizers, and families to prioritize safety.

Through public events, safety demonstrations, and social media campaigns, National Inflatable Safety Day empowers people with the knowledge they need to make smart, safe choices — ultimately reducing accidents and making inflatable fun a safer experience for all.

The 3 Safety Pillars

National Inflatable Safety Day is built on three essential safety practices that every inflatable event should follow:

Pillar 1: Wind/Weather Check

Weather conditions can change rapidly, and operators must continuously monitor wind speeds and forecasts throughout the event. Inflatables should be deflated and secured when winds exceed manufacturer’s recommendations (usually 15–20 mph). Rain, lightning, and severe weather warnings require immediate evacuation and shutdown. A responsible operator always has a weather plan in place before setup begins.

Key practices:

  • Check weather forecasts before every setup
  • Monitor wind speeds continuously during operation
  • Deflate inflatables when winds exceed manufacturer’s recommendations (usually 15–20 mph)
  • Have a severe weather action plan ready

Pillar 2: Proper Anchoring

Every inflatable must be properly anchored to the ground using heavy-duty stakes or sandbags. Unsecured inflatables can become airborne in even moderate winds, posing serious risks to children and bystanders. Operators should use a minimum of one stake per anchor point, driven fully into the ground, and verify all tie-down straps are secure before allowing any use.

Key practices:

  • Use heavy-duty steel stakes at every anchor point
  • Drive stakes fully into the ground at a 45-degree angle
  • Check all straps and connections before each use
  • Use sandbags on hard surfaces

Pillar 3: Adult Supervision

Adult supervision is the single most important safety measure for inflatable use. An attentive adult supervisor who understands the safety rules should be always stationed at every inflatable unit during operation. They should enforce capacity limits, separate children by age and size, prevent rough playing, and ensure safe entry and exit. Never leave children unattended on an inflatable — not even for a moment.

Key practices:

  • Station an adult supervisor who understands the safety rules at every inflatable unit
  • Enforce age, size, and capacity limits
  • Prevent rough playing and unsafe behavior
  • Ensure safe entry and exit at all times

Why was National Inflatable Safety Day created?

National Inflatable Safety Day was created to kick off the summer season with a powerful reminder of the shared responsibility between rental companies, event organizers, and families to prioritize safety. It encourages ongoing conversations, promotes industry-wide safety standards, and highlights the need for proper training and certification.

Inflatable amusement devices — including bounce houses, waterslides, and obstacle courses — are among the most popular attractions at birthday parties, school events, community festivals, and corporate gatherings. When operated by trained professionals who follow proper safety guidelines, inflatables provide a fun and safe experience for everyone. National Inflatable Safety Day was created to celebrate and elevate that standard of excellence — ensuring that families can enjoy inflatables with confidence, knowing that operators are trained, equipment is properly set up, and safety is always the top priority.

Through public events, safety demonstrations, and social media campaigns, National Inflatable Safety Day empowers people with the knowledge they need to make smart, safe choices — ultimately reducing accidents and making inflatable fun a safer experience for all.
