national horse rehabilitation day

When is this day? April 4

What is this day? According to the New Mexico Livestock Board, more than 100,000 horses are abandoned in the country annually. National Horse Rehabilitation Day was created to raise awareness of the plight of neglected, abused, mistreated and unwanted horses.

It is important to educate businesses, organizations, and the public about the abuse and abandonment of horses throughout the country. The day should be observed by supporting a horse in need of rehabilitation. This can include volunteering at a local farm or stables, donating money or horse feed, fundraising for a local animal rescue, sponsoring a horse and helping to provide food, training and veterinary care, and more.

Who created this day? This day was created by Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Program in 2020.
