When will this Day be celebrated?  May 25th of each calendar year.

What is National Hometown Area Local Day?

Hometown Area Local Day will be a day to celebrate what it means to be a local from either your current hometown or from the town in which you grew up. I believe it will be a day for all people in town to come together and celebrate their pride of where they live. Schools, local businesses, police/fire departments can all find a way of commemorating this day each year by sharing in their local pride.

Why is this day being created?

Hometown Area Local Day is being created so that people have a way of sharing their hometown spirit. I believe that expressing the pride you have in your hometown and passing it onto your children is a fantastic way for hometown families to come together and celebrate as one! I also believe it will be a great way to promote foot traffic to local businesses and restaurants. I am a wife and mother of two boys and we all couldn’t be more proud of our town and where we are raising them. We would be more than happy to commemorate where they come from. What better way to celebrate this excitement than with a national holiday!

How should this day be celebrated or observed?

Hometown Area Local Day can be observed in a number of ways. First, schools can teach their students about the town’s establishments. I am a teacher and I know that “Communities” is part of the elementary curriculum. Students can learn and also celebrate by creating posters and wearing the school/town colors. Second, families can gather with a barbecue or celebration at the local parks, maybe organize a parade incorporating fire, police, first aid workers. Thirdly, sports/clubs can arrange games to be played to raise money for local charities. Many activities can be put together to celebrate Hometown Area Local Day and can be promoted through local magazines, newspapers, and social media platforms. I feel it can be a success for any hometown!
