When is National Girl Scout Day?

National Girl Scout Day is March 12th.

What is National Girl Scout Day?

The nation needs strong women. We need bold, trustworthy ladies of integrity and confidence. The Girl Scouts has been training young women for over 100 years, and National Girl Scout Day celebrates the organization for nurturing courage and character in our nation’s young women.

Any time we go to our boss for a raise or ask the neighbors to leash their dog, we need confidence. That’s the kind of thing Girl Scouts pick up through community service, field strips, and skill-building clinics. They learn the value of honesty and service to their communities, and they find out how fun it is to do these things in cooperation.

Over 50 million women have participated in Girl Scouts, and National Girl Scout Day is a great chance to honor the impact the Girl Scouts have had on our country.

Fun facts about National Girl Scout Day!

  • About 10 million girls and adult members participate in Girl Scout organizations in 146 countries. 2.6 million are members of Girl Scouts of the USA.
  • Taylor Swift, Gwyneth Paltrow, Venus and Serena Williams, and Katie Couric were all Girl Scouts.
  • The first girl scout troop was founded in Savannah, Georgia on March 12th, 1912.

How to celebrate National Girl Scout Day:

  • Teach something useful to a little girl or young woman in your life. Impart a skill that helps her practice self-reliance. You could teach her about project planning, time management, CPR and first aid, or how to stand up for herself.
  • Buy Girl Scout cookies. It’s a good chance for them to practice what they learn in their program.
