Don't click it day!

When will National “Don’t Click It” Day be celebrated? October 16th of each calendar year.

What is National “Don’t Click It” Day? Our National Day, Stellar Cyber’s cause program, would be celebrated to teach people of all ages how to protect themselves and their loved ones from hackers. The full slogan, “Don’t Click It, Pitch It,” aims to educate people on what to do when they receive emails or texts from unknown numbers or sources – oftentimes, these are ways hackers use to access sensitive information. We want to spread awareness on how to deal with these scamming attempts – which is simply not to click on them and delete them instead! How should National “Don’t Click It” Day be celebrated or observed? We want to encourage people to post examples of scam texts and emails they’ve received. Hackers count on either blending in their messages with routine texts or sending scary messages that seem targeted towards an individual. Either way, the more we expose common tactics and scamming messages, the more people will know what to look out for (typos, strange URLs, etc.) and not click them!

Also, since we’ve partnered with Minor League Baseball teams for our visibility, we would encourage people to support their local team!

Why was National “Don’t Click It” Day created? Millions of emails and text messages are being sent every day to ordinary people by hackers. Whether it’s a fake alert about their bank account being hacked or a fake UPS delivery text, these methods often look convincing–and contain a bad link or attachment. Recent studies around our addictions of smart devices shows technology alone won’t solve this problem. We as users have to take a stand, and be more aware. The new normal is to assume you’re being attacked by a hacker.

To that end, we want to teach people how to be more careful. First, slow down and think about the incoming text or email. To avoid getting scammed, hacked, or otherwise compromised by educating them on the importance of not clicking on attachments and links. Data leaks are happening every day, not only to corporations, but also to consumers. We want to spread awareness and educate people on how to stay safe online.

Who created this day? This day was created by Don’t Click It in 2024.
