What is National Arc Flash Awareness Day? National Arc Flash Awareness Day is a day focused on Arc Flash education and best practices with the aim of raising awareness and understanding within those working in at-risk roles and those responsible for them. The aim is to ultimately create safer working environments and reducing the number of incidents and injuries by providing knowledge and education.
Why is this Day being created? Everyone deserves to return home Safely at the end of their day. An Arc Flash occurs when an electrical discharge travels through the air and releases an intense burst of energy. With temperatures reaching 19,000°C, an Arc Flash is capable of causing serious harm and even death. Injuries include 3rd degree burns, Damage to eyesight, Hearing loss and physical damage, Significant injury risks from flying debris, Loss of memory or permanent impairment of brain function, burns from hot liquids Other physical injuries from being blown off ladders, into walls etc. Business prosecution with fines in excess of £2 million.
National Arc Flash Awareness Day is a focused day to raise awareness of the risk of Arc Flash,how it can be prevented and how to implement safety protocols to ensure that workers are safe. With the aim to ensure worker safety and ultimately reduce the number of Arc Flash incidents and associated injuries.
