When is International Cat Day? International Cat Day is celebrated on August 8th.

What is International Cat Day? International Cat Day was created by International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) in 2002. Since then, the unofficial holiday has spread rapidly. 

Cats are regarded as the most popular animal in the world and despite the apparent laziness of these furry creatures, studies show that owning at least one cat can actively reduce anxiety, depression, and loneliness. 

Fun facts about International Cat Day! The latest cat census estimates that there are over 500 million cats on planet earth. That’s more cats than there are people in the United States! 

How to celebrate International Cat Day:

  • Volunteer at your local cat shelter.
  • Visit a cat café. Yes, they exist.
  • Donate to a cat charity.
