When will International Career Pivot Day be celebrated? June 21st of each calendar year.
What is International Career Pivot Day? CMP’s International Career Pivot Day takes inspiration from the summer solstice, a time of renewal and new beginnings. Just like the solstice marks the start of a fresh agricultural cycle, a career pivot is an exciting opportunity to embrace a new phase of growth and abundance. This is the moment to pause, reflect, and recognize the endless possibilities ahead as we take bold steps toward something new.
The solstice also represents light—both the nourishing energy of the sun and the light within each of us. It reminds us to trust in our inner power and brightness as we navigate change. Just like the sun reaches its peak, a career pivot offers a chance to shine brighter, discover new creativity, and step into a future full of potential.
As the solstice guides us toward a time of patience and trust, so too does a career journey. It’s a reminder that even in times of transition, we can trust the process and know that growth is happening. Just like the sun rises each day, we too will rise and find our way to new opportunities. This day is an invitation to set fresh goals, embrace new beginnings, and trust that every pivot brings us closer to the career and life we truly desire.
How should International Career Pivot Day be celebrated or observed? The following are some examples:
- Career Goal-Setting Workshop: Facilitate a session focused on setting specific, measurable career goals aligned with the themes of growth and abundance. Participants will walk away with clear, actionable objectives to drive their career pivot.
- Solstice Sunrise or Sunset Networking Walk: Organize a casual, virtual or in-person networking walk during sunrise or sunset. This offers a chance for professionals to connect, share pivot stories, and exchange insights, fostering meaningful relationships.
- Vision Board for Career Success: Host a hands-on session where participants create vision boards that map out their career pivots, professional goals, and aspirations. This will give them a visual, actionable representation of their desired future.
- Pivot Story Sharing and Peer Feedback: Organize a session where participants can share their career pivot experiences and receive constructive feedback from peers. This helps build trust and insight, providing tangible advice for overcoming challenges in their transition.
Why was International Career Pivot Day created? CMP is the only woman and minority-owned firm in the USA that supports laid-off employees and individuals in a career transition. We see first hand the tragedies of individuals feeling hopeless from a layoff or feeling stuck in a rut in a job they don’t love, yet are scared to make the career pivot. I know from personal experience it is daunting to take the risk, but it was worth leaving a job I was great at, but was taking a toll on my mental health. My goal is to create a day where individuals around the world can reframe their negative thoughts of a career pivot to the wonderful opportunities and embrace a new phase.
Who created this day? This day was created by Career Management Partners (CMP) in 2024.
