When is International Box Wine Day? This day will take place on September 9 of each calendar year.
What is International Box Wine Day? This is a day to celebrate box wine and all of its ecological benefits.
Why is this day being celebrated or observed? We want to create International Box Wine Day to raise awareness of this burgeoning method of sustainable packaging, which is growing by leaps and bounds. Box wine has become the new preferred packaging for its economical benefits to both growers and consumers. It also has environmental benefits, since cardboard is much easier to recycle than glass. Additionally, the manufacturing and transport of the boxes reduces the carbon footprint. Plus, the wine stays fresh for up to 6 weeks because the wine has no contact with oxygen, which would degrade its flavor and quality. The box wine revolution is one worth celebrating!
How should this day be celebrated or observed? Celebrate International Box Wine Day by selecting a delicious box of your favorite wine! If you haven’t tried box wine yet, this is a great time to pick one to give it a shot. Most boxes contain up to 20 servings, so be sure to share with a few friends. Don’t forget your favorite charcuterie board, a great cheese and cracker platter or even a couple of pizzas! This is a day to relax, have fun and play a game—or head to the big game to tailgate with a box of red blend or Sangria. It’s easy to serve from the tap or from wine dispensers like a Wine Nook. When you’re finished celebrating, just recycle the cardboard box and plastic bag (inside the box), which holds 3 Liters or the equivalent of 4 bottles of wine! There’s no glass to dispose of with box wine, and one glass bottle uses 80% more energy to produce than an entire box of wine. So you are helping the environment by buying box wine instead of bottled! A huge list of box wines can be found here:
If you are celebrating the day alone, just refrigerate what’s left. Box wine is good for 4-6 weeks, depending on the brand. Cheers!
