When is this day celebrated? October 8

Who created this day? This day was founded by Johnson’s Baby in 2018.

Why was this day created? More than 230 million children around the world are unregistered, resulting in a lack of basic human rights, needs, and protection. As well as causing immediate issues, this lack of identity can also lead to displacement, statelessness, and the inability to prove that a child is a minor in the eyes of the law. The 8th of October has been registered by Johnson’s Baby to mark International Birth Registration Day as the company launches ‘The Right Start’ initiative in partnership with Save the Children, a region-wide campaign in the Middle East and Africa aimed at shedding light on the overlooked issue and mobilizing efforts on the ground to bridge the gap of birth registration.
