When is National Fajita Day? On August 18th, we celebrate National Fajita Day!

What is National Fajita Day? Fajitas are a staple Mexican dish made from a meat of your choice (chicken, pork, steak, shrimp) sizzling peppers and onions, Pico de Gallo, guacamole, served with corn or flour tortillas. This culinary masterpiece has only just come into its own, having been developed in the 20th century.

Fun fact about National Fajita Day! This dish was originally made from throwaway cuts of beef by Mexican cowboys and other livestock herders. They would simply fry the left-over beef in a pan on the open fire and then compliment it with tortillas.

Since then, the world has enjoyed adding more and more to the fajita, getting us to our current fajita creation.

How to celebrate National Fajita Day: This is the fun part. Fajitas were created by accident and you get to mimic that process. Head to your closest food market and grab various veggies and meats, experimentation is the name of the game. Come back, slice and dice, fry it all up, mix and match, and voila, you will have become a contributor to the fajita revolution.

If, for whatever reason, you can’t do the above then get out to your local Mexican restaurant and support their business. Why not contribute to the Mexican culture as you enjoy one of their delicious gifts to us?!
