When is National Presidential Joke Day? National Presidential Joke Day annually falls on August 11th.

What is National Presidential Joke Day?  On August 11, 1984, during a sound check, President Ronald Reagan joked, “My fellow Americans, I’m pleased to tell you today that I’ve signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever, we begin bombing in five minutes.” This joke became public and Reagan was blasted over his unpresidential conduct. In spite of the criticism, the incident helped the public appreciate the humanity of the presidential office and since then the nation has observed National Presidential Joke Day.

National Presidential Joke Day is a day when the U.S.A. gets to poke at their most powerful standing official. In the midst of wanting to take ourselves seriously on the global stage, it’s healthy to have a day where we remember our president’s missteps and mishaps.

How to celebrate National Presidential Joke Day? Visit youtube. Go there and listen to Reagan’s great “offline” soviet joke.

And while you’re there spend some time watching one of the many presidential joke montages that have been put together.

If you’re feeling especially festive then go give Man of the Year a watch. The late Robin Williams plays a jester who becomes president and is pulled between being a jokester and feeling the wait of the office.
