What is Mākua Rothman Day? Mākua Rothman is a native Hawaiian, Big Wave Surf Champion, an accomplished musician, who continues to use his celebrity status to make monumental contributions for his community, and a global influencer. As an official Ambassador of Hawaii, Makua been recognized continuously for his philanthropic work, which includes volunteering his time and resources for numerous charities and teaching surfing to people with disabilities, who otherwise may never experience such an amazing sport. Despite his challenging upbringing, and overcoming enormous odds, few surfers have had an improbable story and impact as Mākua. He is courageous and outspoken. A visionary that has managed continued success of his own making, while still completely down-to-earth. There is a generosity and a sweetness about him that’s infectious. Mākua Rothman is the true definition of living the Aloha spirit.

How should this day be celebrated? By spreading true Aloha spirit around the world by a simple act of love, hospitality, acknowledgment of the people around you, a kind gesture or exchange with a stranger. Spend time appreciating nature. Live in the moment while appreciating all around you. Especially taking a moment to learn about the Hawaiian culture and what makes it so special.
