When is Geek Pride Day?

May 25th is Geek Pride Day.

What is Geek Pride Day?

If fanatical information acquisition is your game, “geek” may be your name. Geek Pride Day celebrates the classic signs of a geeky disposition: the obsessive gathering of facts and mementos.

Geeks used to congregate in the dens and computer labs of the world, hiding in secretive covens of encyclopedic fascination and sometimes, sadly, in shame. But no more! The oppressors of days past (jocks, preps, etc.) now find geeks standing beside them as peers.

But what’s a geek, what’s a nerd, and what’s the difference? It depends on who you ask. The terms are a bit slippery, and there is some overlap. In general, geeks are enthusiasts and nerds are specialists. Geeks collect memorabilia, products, and information out of sheer interest in the subject. Nerds have a more academic approach, studying to acquire knowledge and skill.

Does that mean nerds can’t celebrate Geek Pride Day? By no means! Every nerd has a geeky side too. So come one, come all, and bask in the freedom to walk openly under the banner of Geek Pride Day.
